Learning to love Turkey

NOTE: A few of the videos are no longer accessible. They have been taken off of YouTube because the Gulenists know they are being exposed and have removed some of their web content.

It is likely that neither prospective parents, nor the people who authorized the petitions of these charter schools, were notified by the founders and administrators about how students would be trained and encouraged to participate in these major activities. It is also likely that most community members don't grasp the fact that there could possibly be a deeper significance about all these American charter school students performing at annual "Turkish Olympiads."

Student training takes place in Turkish language classes and afterschool clubs. It is unknown who is providing the elaborate, glamorous costumes and travel expenses to the various regional Turkish language events. At these charter schools, trips to Turkey and other Turkish activities are routine throughout the year, although the strong Turkish emphasis will not appear written into the language of the original charter school petitions.

From the official Web site of the International Turkish Olympiad: "...from our land the power of the Turkish language would spread throughout the world.

Read more about the Hizmet volunteers who are fanning out to schools across the globe to work as Gulen missionaries so they can teach children how to do these things in Pioneering Turkish Teachers Realize Long-sought Dream, May 31, 2009, Sunday’s Zaman (a Gulenist publication)

Marking the seventh year of this event, the International Turkish Olympiads is just one of the fruits of the tireless work of self-sacrificing teachers who have moved to different parts of the world, being inspired by the well-known Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, widely considered to be one of the most influential thinkers alive today.

Having witnessed the harmony between the students of those 115 participating countries, despite the fact that they are competing against each other for first place in one of the 14 different categories all requiring mastery in Turkish, one cannot but agree that if global peace is going to be a reality one day, its existence will owe a great deal to those who incessantly communicate their transcendent love, which does not recognize borders or discriminate against anyone.

Walking among those students without even uttering a word, it is impossible not to see the beauty they form together. Students coming from Nigeria, the UK, Yemen, the US, Mexico, Tajikistan, Australia and 108 other countries around the world, hand-in-hand, are the perfect assurance for a better tomorrow… What about the friendship between Iraqi Sazgar Darabek from Sulaimaniya Girls College and American Denise Stacy Uraias from Texas Science Academy?…

The fatigue and pain that needed to be contended with in order for these teachers to deliver a fruitful outcome cannot be underestimated. They made the sacrifice of moving to countries far from Turkey that most of their fellow countrymen have never even heard of and where the climates are not so pleasant…

…Each year, contestants are selected from every country where there is at least one Turkish school by a jury of teachers working at that particular institution...

These Gulen charter schools are not interested in giving their students an exposure to a broad range of nationalities and languages. They are interested in teaching them to develop a love for Turkey.

YouTube contains many, many more videos.

Update on 7/27/2010: It occurs to me that providing such beautiful costumes to the students are a way to seduce them. It's like an elaborate game of dress-up.

I am sickened by the blatent use of the Islamic flag in these videos. Americans are so naive and have no idea that the Flag of Turkey is an Islamic symbol.
We must tell our school districts we no longer will foot the bill for Gulen and his thugs to destroy our American education system. The Gulen lies are out of control. What has become of us that we are allowing foreigners to tell us about educating our children? Gulen and this thugs take a boat back to Turkey and dance the Turkey Trot on the way.

Your tax dollars + charter schools + free market fun-and-games + inadequate oversight = 30,000+ U.S. kids being taught at charter schools operated by the missionaries of Fetullah Gulen.

Soak it all up, dear friend, and then develop plans for putting an end to all charter schools. It's time to do for public schools what really needs to be done.

I value separation of church and state, and I'm also disturbed by the Islamist leanings of the current Turkish government.

Thanks to S.H. for shedding light on this.

The US public education system...SUCKS.
Yes there are a few good publi and private schools, but overall, the kids come out without a basic knowledge of world history, geography, science, english and math.
I am writing from Canada, and having just recently discovered a private Turkish school (which I suspect has Gulen affiliations) I have decided to enrol my son in this school (for which I`ll have to pay).
Why...
Why not.
The environment is very socially conervative and goal oriented. My son needs that. Turks are generally very ambitious, driven and disciplined (my son needs that VERY much). There`s an enormous emphasis on learning and COMPETING.....
The boy needs that as well.
As far as learning Turkish.....nothing wrong with learning the language of a fast-developing, new regional power in the Eastern Mediterranean.
As far as the Turkish flag having the star and the crescent symbol on it.....
I wonder if anyone`s taken a closer look at the flags of Greece, Malta, Denmark, Israel....

I congratulate you on sending your son to a "private" Turkish school that you must pay for.
No one denies the right for the Gulen Schools to have as many private schools as they want. Have 100 of them for all we care.
But where you are sadly missing the jest of this is the use of my tax money to feed classes that are unnecessary and NO Turkish is not worth anything in the USA, but Spanish is.

With the ban on ethnic studies in many states like Arizona. Your buddies in the Bowel Movement oops I mean Gulen Movement will have to rethink their curriculum of Turkish Dancing, Turkish Character (big joke) and all those $billions in US Tax payers money earmarked for OUR children not for trips to Turkey, paying for h1-b visas of uncredentialed teachers who have nothing to contribute to American society.
And the remark about the flag, no one would have a problem with the Flag of Turkey except for the fact the crescent and the star is actually the symbol of Islam.(trying to slip that one by are you?) and unfortunately many of these Gulen charter schools that are stealing our tax dollars are teaching the American children the Turkish National Anthem.
Those other countries are not trying to open charter schools without being transparent to their true intentions across the USA.
We find the schools are anti-American and sexist toward women. Which mimmicks the Gulen Movement as women are not allowed into the inner circles. Gulen himself is not particulary a woman lover.

Speaking of Gulen any word when he will come out of hiding and face the truth back in Turkey.

Or maybe a better question is what will Gulen do when America is done with him.

P.S. The public school system in America is the best in the world besides Finland.
And the worst would be Turkey.
Maybe your brothers should try to fix their mess before professing to know what is best for Americans.

Sorry folks. Yes, these schools have a loose affliation with the Gulen (a non-religious, secular humanist organization which promotes inclusion of all cultures in the US). My children attend one of these schools and we couldn't be happier. Religion (Islam, Christianity, or any other) is not taught at these schools in any way, shape or form. Respect and tolerance is what's taught here... along with superior teachers that work exceptionally hard and really care about each and every student. This is public education. Yes, it is sad that our traditional public schools can't do a better job, but don't fear monger and bash what you don't know from personal experience....

No need to be sorry, you were sorry when you were born or joined the Hizmet.
Can you be any more obvious? Nice try, but all the denialism won't change the truth. "Loose affliation" with Gulen is that like your other tag line "no organic ties?" you must think of new things to say.
Transparency would be better for your group at this time, your schools are being denied and the funding is going bye bye.
Do not ever profess that you know about our American traditional public schools, you know nothing and we are still ranked above average in the world while Turkey is ranked below average above Mexico and Chile. No fear mongering here only the truth...try it sometime then you might be able to keep your schools instead of the inevitable closures.

P.S. the Turkmenistan Gulen Turkish Schools are closing!!!

P.S. Stop trying to compare the Gulen Movement with Christianity or other religions.
Naming your silly foundations like "Holy Dove" is only making you lose credibilty as well as comparing that knucklehead 5th grade educated Gulen to Ghandi will not serve your purpose. Ghandi did great deeds and was educated as an attorney.
What quantifible SPECIFIC deeds has Gulen done for mankind? And if you bring up the fact he met the former pope 13 years ago we are going to puke. Stop the BS already and open your eyes. Hocaefendi cares nothing about you, his billions will not be shared with you. In fact, he claims he has nothing to do with your silly schools.
