A former University High School music teacher was found guilty Thursday of 13 felony charges for having a sexual relationship with an underage former student and exchanging sexually explicit text messages with two other students.
Jonathan Malcolm, as well as his wife, Jennifer, showed no reaction when the verdict was announced in Fresno County Superior Court. Judge James Petrucelli allowed Malcolm to remain free on bail as long as he didn't look at pornography or hang out where teenagers congregate. Malcolm faces up to 11 years in prison when he is sentenced March 21...Malcolm made it easy for jurors. On the witness stand, he admitted that he had a sexual relationship with his former student after she graduated in the early summer of 2007. He also said he knew the girl was three months short of turning 18. He said the affair happened while he and his wife were having difficulties with their marriage.In addition, he admitted that he sent offensive text messages to two students.
