Sycamore Academy of Science and Cultural Arts

The Lake Elsinore Unified School District issued a Notice of Violations and a Notice to Cure and Correct order after the charter school came up short on several benchmarks.

The Lake Elsinore Unified School District and Sycamore Academy of Science and Cultural Arts boards have each agreed to provide two representatives to meet regularly to discuss how to address and improve the K-6 Charter School’s academic rankings and scores to meet specific benchmarks.

The decision follows the issuance of a Notice of Violations and Notice to Cure and Correct by the district to the Wildomar-based charter school. The notice resulted from a lower-than-expected academic ranking based on state-required tests.

The district board also requested that the school report when a student drops out and to provide the student’s last address to the superintendent...

District officials insisted that those worried about the school being closed were overreacting and the district was simply requesting improvement.

“It is not my intent to close the charter school,” said Susan Scott, district board president. “We are not here to antagonize. But you are getting notice.”...

Sycamore school representatives challenged the way the state judges a school’s success based on test scores and school rankings. District Superintendent Frank Passarella agreed that the system is not perfect.

“It’s the card public schools have been dealt,” he said, adding that lawmakers and school officials in Sacramento make the decisions on how schools are scored and pass them on to local school districts.

Sycamore school received a similar-school ranking of 1 out of 10 with 10 being the highest ranking. The school’s statewide ranking was a 6...

Someone should look into the fact that there is a female teacher who inappropriately hugs and calls boys "delicious." Teachers publicly humiliate kids for making mistakes, and chastise kids for not understanding the course work, even when these kids have an IEP (Learning disability). A female teacher frequently projects her Facebook photos of her in a bikini, and "accidentally" projected her naked breasts on the wall, seen by entire class. She claimed she was showing someone an after photo of her breast job. But then isn’t looking at nude photos on a school computer against the law. During a recent field trip, there was a LONG list of parents requesting their kids NOT be in this teachers’ group.

Do your research before sending your kids here. Although some teachers/staff are great, there are a select few that should not be teaching or around kids. There are teachers that publicly humiliate students, teachers will lie to cover other teacher's wrongdoings, there is a teacher that continually tells little boys that they "Smell delicious" and puts her personal Facebook account projected on the wall, so kids can see her in a bikini and bare breasts. Several kids went home and told their parents. The Vice Principal (Another joke) had a staff meeting and blatantly lied and said that it got through the "firewall and broadcasted throughout the school, not just one teacher's computer. Then they were instructed NOT to talk about it.
The Principal (total B***h), Vice Principal (No backbone, common sense, and total liar), and other teachers cover up for each other to give the perception that the school is good. One female teacher took another students' cell phone, demanded the pass-code and started to look at her personal social media accounts, causing the student to get embarrassed and cry.
On SEVERAL occasions, parents have come in to discuss issues with the Principal, only to leave more frustrated because they were lied to straight to their faces. I personally know a handful of parents that told the Principal to “F**k-OFF” because she is very disrespectful to ANY parent that wants to discuss any issue about her staff. Several staff members, which are friends of mine, have heard the Principal state, “Not my circus, not my monkeys” referring to the students in HER school.
Yes, I am an upset parent, but I am also taking the time to write this so nobody else makes the same mistake and enrolls their kids under false pretenses and a false sense of security.
Lastly, go onto their Facebook site. It has 5 stars, only because the Principal told staff to vote 5 stars. Also note that those who rated the school 5 stars did NOT leave any comments.
The school has always had sub-standard test scores. Read and heed reviews from other parents.

Had nothing but great experiences with this school and have children with mental health and behavioral issues. The Principal and Vice Principal have been amazing to work with and paired with the extremely qualified teachers, have by far surpassed my children's previous public schools!
